Is my patient data secure?
Is my patient data secure?
Security and privacy of your data are top priorities for Similia. Practitioners enter sensitive information, so Similia aims to protect it with strong technical and organizational measures.
Similia presents the platform as HIPAA-ready and GDPR-compliant.
How Similia protects your data
- Encryption in transit: communication with Similia uses TLS 1.3.
- Encryption at rest: stored data is protected with AES-256 encryption.
- Access control: your account is password-protected. Only you, and people you explicitly share with, can access your cases.
- Secure storage: case data is stored on enterprise-grade cloud infrastructure with access controls and ongoing internal security reviews.
- Consent controls: privacy/GDPR consent and separate AI-processing consent can be managed from Settings > Privacy.
- Data minimization: Similia aims to store only what is needed to provide the app's functionality.
Analytics, support, and third-party tools
Similia may use third-party services for:
- product analytics and performance, to improve stability and user experience
- support chat, so you can contact support from inside the app
- feedback collection, to collect feature requests and bug reports
These tools can collect usage information. Support chat can also include identifying details such as your email if you provide it. They are not intended to store or process patient notes for advertising.
Marketing and analytics tracking follow the current consent implementation in production.
AI processing
AI-processing consent is required before using AI features that process case notes, images, audio, or other user-provided clinical material.
When you use AI features, the content you submit is processed to produce suggestions, such as SRP symptoms, transcription, summaries, and rubric matches. AI features consume AI credits.
Similia's current AI stack includes OpenAI for notes/photo analysis and Deepgram for live audio transcription. Similia states it has signed Business Associate Agreements with both providers and uses zero-retention processing for covered AI data. Submitted patient data is not used to train AI models. Some semantic-search workflows also rely on providers such as Google and Pinecone as part of the search stack.
For Live Audio Mode specifically, the audio recording is not saved. Only the transcript and an AI summary are saved to the analysis notes.
Export and deletion
You can export your data from the app. If you delete your account, Similia removes your account data server-side, including cases and related case data, subject only to any legal requirements that may apply.
If you have questions about privacy or need a data export/deletion request handled, contact support.
