# Using AI: Similia AI (AI Chat)

# Using AI: Similia AI (AI Chat)

Similia AI, also called AI Chat, is a conversational research assistant built into Similia. You can ask it about a case, compare remedies, or explore a rubric, and it answers using your own repertories and Materia Medica, with citations you can open and check against the original text. Similia AI is currently labelled Beta.

## How do I open Similia AI?

You can open Similia AI from anywhere in the app:

* On the home dashboard, click the **AI Chat** button.
* In the top navigation bar, click the sparkles icon (Open AI chat).

Similia AI opens as a panel on the right side of the screen. It stays available while you work, and you can start a new chat with **New chat** once an answer has finished. On narrow screens, such as a phone, **Sources**, **History** and **New chat** appear in the panel header as icons only. On larger screens, the expand icon widens the panel to the full width of the window.

The first time you open Similia AI in each session, a "How Similia AI works" window explains how it answers. To stop it opening automatically on this device, tick "Don't show this again" in that window before you close it. You can reopen it at any time from the info icon in the panel header.

If you can't see the **AI Chat** button or the sparkles icon, check Settings → **Work mode**. **Manual** mode hides Similia AI, and closes the chat panel if it is open. Choose **AI-assisted** to bring it back.

## Asking a question

1. Type your question in the message box ("Ask anything about a case, a remedy, or a rubric…"), then press Enter or click the send button. Press Shift+Enter to start a new line.
2. While Similia AI works, a **Thinking** panel shows each step, such as "Searching repertories" and "Composing the answer".
3. Read the answer, then open its cards to check the sources.

## What can Similia AI do?

* Answer questions about a case, a remedy, or a rubric in plain language.
* Draw on the repertories and Materia Medica your account has access to, except the Dreams Repertory and the New World Veterinary Repertory, which Similia AI does not search. Which of them it uses is set in **Sources**. If your plan includes the Murphy, Complete, Saine or Suggesta repertory, Similia AI starts with a preset, not with every source, until you choose sources yourself (see "Choosing which sources it uses").
* Where useful, include a **Repertorization** card and a **Materia medica excerpts** card in its reply.

The **Materia medica excerpts** card shows the passages the answer drew on. Each entry opens that remedy's Materia Medica page. Where the card shows quoted passages, they are highlighted on the page so you can check them against the original text.

The **Repertorization** card lists the leading remedies with their totals, and the rubrics behind them. Click **New repertorization** to open those rubrics in a new analysis. It is saved as a quick case ("Quick case 1", "Quick case 2", and so on) in the "Quick cases" folder. When an analysis is open, **Add to clipboard (A)** adds the rubrics to that analysis's current clipboard sheet (the letter shows which sheet) and skips any that are already there.

## Choosing which sources it uses

Similia AI searches only the repertories and Materia Medica selected in **Sources**:

1. Click **Sources** in the chat panel header.
2. On the **Simple** tab, pick a preset. Which presets you see depends on the premium repertories and add-ons in your plan.
3. Or, on the **Advanced** tab, click individual repertories and Materia Medica books to include or exclude them. Each group has its own **Select all** and **Clear** buttons.
4. Click **All sources** to go back to every source Similia AI can use for your account.

Select at least one repertory or one Materia Medica. If nothing is selected, the chat shows "Pick at least one repertory or one materia medica to continue." and you can't send a message.

Similia remembers your choice on this device. If you haven't chosen sources on a device yet, Similia AI starts with the first preset your plan includes. If no preset is available ("No presets available with your current subscription. Use Advanced to pick sources manually."), it uses all your sources.

## Can it use my open case?

Yes. When you have an analysis open, Similia AI can use that case's selected rubrics and notes as context, so its answers are grounded in the case you are working on.

* A chip at the bottom of the chat shows when the open case is in use, for example "Case: [case name] · Sheet A".
* Case context is on by default. Click the chip to stop sharing the case when you want a general answer instead. The chip then reads "Use open case: [case name]". Click it again to share the case again. Similia remembers this choice on this device.
* A message sent with the case is tagged "With case: …". If the case could not be read for that message, the tag says "Case context couldn't be read for this turn (…)" instead. These tags are not shown when you reopen a conversation from **History**.

## Rating an answer

Under each answer you are asked "Was this helpful?", with thumbs-up and thumbs-down buttons. Your rating is saved as soon as you click. A "Share your thoughts" box then opens, with the prompt "What do you appreciate?" for a positive rating or "What can be improved?" for a negative one. A comment is optional: type it and click **Send**. Once the comment is sent, the line changes to "Thanks for your feedback!".

If you reopen the conversation later from **History**, the rating buttons appear unselected, even on answers you already rated. Your earlier rating is still recorded. If you rate that answer again, your new rating replaces the earlier one and any comment you sent with it.

## Finding an earlier conversation

Similia AI keeps your past conversations. Open **History** in the chat panel to see your 30 most recently updated conversations, most recent first, each with the date and time it was last updated and its number of messages. You can reopen any conversation to continue it, or delete one you no longer want (Similia asks you to confirm first).

## Similia AI vs AI Case Analysis

Similia AI is for open-ended questions and quick comparisons. For a full case workup (a differential, suggested rubrics, and Materia Medica highlights for the whole case), open the case and run **AI Analysis** (AI Case Analysis) instead. AI Analysis needs Pro plus at least one premium repertory. Similia AI needs Pro but not a premium repertory. AI Analysis is described in "Repertorization and Analysis (Selecting Rubrics)".

## What do I need to use it?

* Similia AI is a Pro feature, and Lifetime Pro includes it. It works with the repertories and Materia Medica your plan includes (not the Dreams Repertory or the New World Veterinary Repertory).
* Without Pro, the sparkles icon opens an upgrade window. The **AI Chat** button on the home dashboard still opens the panel, but your message is not answered. After the consent prompt (if it appears), Similia AI shows "Similia AI is a Pro feature, and your Pro access has ended. Upgrade to keep using the assistant." with an **Upgrade to Pro** button. This appears on any account without active Pro, including Free accounts that never had Pro.
* It uses AI credits. The chat panel header shows your credit balance on wider screens, and each answer shows how many credits it used ("Used … credits").
* If you have not yet given AI data-processing consent, Similia asks for it before your first message ("AI Data Processing Consent"). Click **I Consent**, and your message is then sent. You can withdraw consent in Settings → **Privacy & consent**.
* It needs an internet connection. In the installed app with offline mode on, opening Similia AI while offline shows "This needs an internet connection. It works again as soon as the connection returns." See "Using Similia Offline (Beta)".

## If something goes wrong

* "You're out of AI credits. Top up to keep using the assistant.": click **Top up credits** to add credits.
* "Similia AI is a Pro feature, and your Pro access has ended. Upgrade to keep using the assistant.": your account has no active Pro access (Free accounts see this too). Click **Upgrade to Pro**.
* "Using Similia AI requires your consent to AI data processing.": click **Review & accept**.
* "The assistant couldn't complete this request. Please try again.": send your message again.
* "This conversation turn didn't finish.": no answer was saved for that message, so ask the question again.
