# My Notes

# My Notes

My Notes is your personal notebook inside Similia, wired into the Materia Medica. You can type notes, dictate them, or photograph handwritten pages and have the text transcribed. Notes can be linked to a remedy or a family, so they appear alongside the materia medica authors when you read that remedy.

Your notes and highlights are private to your account: they do not change the books and are not shown to other users.

You will find it in the app under **Tools** → **My notes**.

## Do I need Pro?

Yes. My Notes is a Pro feature — the whole tool, not just parts of it. Highlighting and annotating the materia medica is Pro as well. Both are included with Lifetime Pro too.

## Creating a note

Choose **New note**, then give the note an identity. There are two ways to do this, and one of them is required before the note can be saved:

* **Title** — type a plain name in the title field, for example "Lecture on potencies".
* **Remedy** — select **Remedy** and link the note to a remedy or family. A linked note can also be read in the Materia Medica under that remedy, and it is flagged in your list with an "In your materia medica" badge (shown as an icon in **List** view).

A note is named either by its title or by its linked remedy, not both: linking a remedy replaces the title.

If you start writing without either, the editor shows "Add a title or link a remedy before saving."

Notes save as you write. On wider screens the editor shows "Saving…", then "Saved", and "Unsaved changes" if something has not been stored yet. If a save fails, a message appears under the toolbar on any screen size.

On smaller screens the editor tools show as icons: a microphone for **Dictate**, a camera for **Scan handwriting** and an image for **Add image**.

To delete a note, open it and select the bin icon (**Delete note**), then confirm. The note and its images are removed permanently.

## Dictating a note

1. In the language menu next to **Dictate** (it shows a language, such as "English"; its tooltip reads "Spoken language"), choose the language you will speak.
2. Select **Dictate** and speak. Recording starts at once, and the language cannot be changed while it runs.
3. Select **Stop** when you have finished. The transcript is inserted into your note.

Dictation is capped at **10 minutes** — if you reach the limit, recording stops and what you have recorded is transcribed.

If you see "Microphone access was denied", allow microphone access for Similia in your browser settings and try again.

## Transcribing handwritten pages

Select **Scan handwriting** and choose a photo of a handwritten page or a document (on a phone or tablet, the picker usually lets you take the photo there and then). The transcribed text is added to your note. The photo must be a JPEG, PNG or WebP image under **4 MB**.

The photo itself is not stored — only the text extracted from it.

## AI consent and credits

Dictation and handwriting transcription are AI features. They require your AI-processing consent: if you have not given it yet, Similia shows "AI Data Processing Consent" when you start one, and choosing **I Consent** continues with your request. You can withdraw consent at any time in Settings → **Privacy & consent**.

They also consume AI credits from your balance. If your balance is too low, Similia tells you rather than running the request.

Both need an internet connection, because the transcription runs on Similia's servers.

## Adding images

Use **Add image** to attach pictures to a note. A note can hold up to **10 images**, each under **4 MB**, in JPEG, PNG or WebP format. The note needs a title or a linked remedy before you can add an image. Attached images appear in a strip at the bottom of the note; use the × on an image to remove it.

Images attached this way are stored with the note — unlike the handwriting scan, whose photo is discarded once the text is extracted.

## Organising notes in folders

Notes can be filed into folders, and folders can contain subfolders.

* Create with **New folder** or **New subfolder**, and use **Rename**, **Move to…**, **Move up** and **Move down** to arrange them.
* File a note from its **⋯** menu with **Move to folder…**. On wider screens you can also drag it onto a folder in the sidebar, or use the folder button at the top of the note editor.
* The folder sidebar always starts with **All notes**; once you have a folder, **Unfiled** appears below it. On a phone there is no sidebar: once you have a folder, a folder menu above the list takes its place.
* **Deleting a folder does not delete the notes inside it.** They are kept: notes in a deleted top-level folder move back to Unfiled, and notes in a deleted subfolder move up to its parent folder.

The note list can be shown as **Cards** or as a **List**, and filtered by folder, by remedy, or by typing in the filter box.

Once you have highlighted a book, the list also shows your highlights, grouped by book and remedy, with a switch between **All notes**, **My notes** and **My highlights**. Highlights are not filed in folders, so they are listed only while **All notes** is selected in the folder sidebar or folder menu. With a folder or **Unfiled** selected, only notes are shown. Selecting a highlight opens the book at that passage.

## Highlighting and annotating the Materia Medica

While reading a materia medica book, switch on **Annotate** and select text to highlight it. Highlights come in six colours — yellow, green, blue, pink, orange and purple — and you can attach a written note to any highlighted passage, or add a note to the page as a whole.

With **Annotate** on, you can also click a spot in the text without selecting anything, type a note, and choose:

* **Write here** — your words appear inside the sentence.
* **Pin here** — the note sits behind a pin that you open to read.

To read the author's text as published, use **Hide my words**; **Show my words** brings your written-in notes back.

Select an existing highlight to change its colour, edit its note, or remove it with **Delete highlight**.

A "My highlights" rail lists the highlights on the page you are reading. If a highlight sits inside a collapsed section, the rail tells you to open that section to see it.

Books change between editions. If the text a highlight quotes is no longer on the page, Similia does not discard the highlight — it lists it separately as one that could not be placed, so nothing you wrote is lost.

## Finding a note again

In My Notes, the filter box covers the full body of your notes as well as your book highlights and their notes, not just note titles. Matches deeper in a note's text can take a moment: while the search runs, a spinner shows in the filter box, or "Searching notes…" if nothing is listed yet.

Materia Medica keyword search includes your notes and highlights too, under the source "My notes". A note without a linked remedy opens in My Notes. When a search result is a highlight, opening it takes you to the book **in the language edition the highlight was made on**, so the highlight lands on the text you originally marked.

Notes linked to a remedy are also reachable from the Materia Medica itself: in the Materia Medica's **Filters** sidebar, the **My notes** entry just below **All Authors** narrows the list to the remedies you have notes on (on a phone, it is the button right after **All Authors** in the row above the list). When you read that remedy, your note appears as a source called "My notes", with an "Edit in My notes" link back to the editor.

## Using My Notes offline

My Notes works offline in the installed Similia app when offline mode (Beta) is on. Offline mode is for Pro accounts outside any free trial and never runs in a browser tab. To set it up, see "Using Similia Offline (Beta)".

* Turning offline mode on copies your notes to the device. If the list shows "Notes are not on this device yet", they download by themselves while the device is online.
* You can write and edit notes offline. Changes are kept on the device (on wider screens the editor shows "Saved on this device"), and they sync when the connection returns, while the app is open.
* Filing notes, creating folders and renaming them work offline. Moving, reordering and deleting folders need a connection.
* An image added offline is kept on the device and uploads once you are back online; hovering over its thumbnail shows "Image waiting to upload".
* **Dictate** and **Scan handwriting** are dimmed offline.
* If the same note was changed on another device in the meantime, both versions are kept: the other version becomes a separate note.
* In a book, your highlights and notes show as they were at your last online visit to that page, and they can be changed once the connection returns.
